It was relatively pain free and apart from the first night where my eyes streamed til midnight and felt slightly uncomfortable it was a walk in the park. I managed to get about 5 hours sleep in the end. The following day i had my check up @15:00 and was able to read the 4th line down with my left eye and 3rd with my right..not great..but here i am on day 4 and i can now see the 8th line down from a eye test chart printed from the net. Also a good test is number plates.Walking back from the station on day 2 i could see one at 40 paces..now 70 paces on day 4. For the record Dr Patel told me to rest my eyes completely on day 1 and 2 and that means eyes shut as much as possible and no TV/PC use !!

I still have some mistiness and the odd sharp pain and am now down to taking the eyedrops 4 times a day and the refresh drops about 5/6 times a day..definately no dry eye syndrome so far and my eyes have improved every day.

Let's see if this continues..From my research and also chatting with a frriend of the family who works at a hospital which does eye surgery i'm expecting it to get worse before it gets better and not get anxious when it does..but..early days and easier said that done i guess.

Will update with any major news. My prescription is relatively high left eye -7.75 and right eye -8.0. I have done some research around ten hours, and have found a lot of conflicting information. The array of options is quite daunting. I have always tried in all my major decision making processes to decide on the best quality at the lowest price (Sounds obvious however difficult to achieve). The big question comes down to what is the acutal difference between Optimax and Ultralase. I will start with the case for both companies. Optimax suggests that you can get the same treatment with them for half the price of the other major companies (I presume this is in reference to Ultralase etc). Ultralase suggests that the treatment and lifetime guarantee service offers enhanced results. With Ultralase due to my high prescription Ultra Elite with Lasik and wavefront seems to be the best answer (Recommended to me by Ultralase consultant) . This will cost around 4k. I have a appt with Optimax in January 2010. From my research if I am recommended for surgery, it will be wavefront lasik intralase blade-less technology like Ultralase. However the cost is likely to be around 50% discount from Ultralase and lesser discount with others. This information seems to be understood by most and widely available. From what I can understand the ONLY advantage held by Ultralase with the treatment, Ultra Elite is the added capability to smooth out minor imperfections in the eye. Which I think that Optimax cannot achieve with their equipment. Everything otherwise seems to be the same equipment wise.THE BIG QUESTION THAT WE ALL WANT TO KNOW, IS WHAT IS THE EXACT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPTIMAX EQUIPMENT AND ULTRALASE EQUIPMENT ??????. The Ultralase lifetime guarantee (Including free retreatment if required) adds much weight to the Ultralase option. The Optimax lifetime guarantee seems to only be really valid for one year retreatment wise. I do expect to need retreatment maybe one or even two more times in my lifetime, which again seems to add weight to the Ultralase option(Costs!!) due to my age 25 years old.I will conclude by evaluating in my opinion, that Ultralase might be better if you are younger(higher or lower prescription), and hence the inital higher costs will be outweighed by the retreatment costs saved. Optimax might be better if you expect to have one treatment in your lifetime and no further treatments.I would much welcome any futher posts, and the question what is really the difference between these two companies and others. I havent decided yet but I think Ultralase would be best for me due to my age and my potential retreatment. Hence I cannot see any real difference between Optimax and Ultralase. Thanks for reading,James

How about after care?

How soon after surgery can I use mascara (not that I wear it much)? Also how am i supposed to sleep? I spoke to a Mr. Gandhi who was quite helpful and tried to reassure me that I am suitable for treatment even though I have had two different squints in my right eye (Even though they have now been rectified through surgery) I don't have a prism in my right lens any more due to the surgery, but I do have problems aligning my right eye with what I'm looking at (Or so it feels to me, even though Mr Gandhi said it is not noticeable)I don't know if I confused him, as I put down on the question form that had a lazy eye not a squint. I think he sort of understood what I meant, but I'm not so good with explaining eye surgery! Also, I don't know why, but in didn't put any dilating drops in my eyes either. Could this affect me having the surgery done? Would I need to go back and have this looked at before I went in and had the operation in November?Do you think I should still get it done? Thanks : )

Very successful laser eye surgery

HiI originally went to one of Optimax's competitors, but during the consultation I felt like I was on a conveyor belt, no real personal sevice and avoided the "risk" questions.Couple months later I went to Optiimax at Canary Wharf in London for a consultation. Very personal, very thorough and gave detailed explanation of my "risk" concerns. I then went home and did some Research on the consulatants available and decided to have the treatment at Optimax in Finchley, London. On 9/9/09 I had Intralase Wavefront Lasik Treatment in both eyes. I was short sighted and have astigmatism. Treatment itself was completely painless. Couple hours after treatment I had some discomfort, but never had to take the painkillers I was given. Day 2 I had one bloodshot eye and it was slightly sore (feels a bit like a contact lens that has dried up). Day 2 I had a follow up test...vision already the same as when I wore contacts. Day 7 and vision is now 20/20. Having treatment was one of the best things I have ever done.Day 14 and I feel like I have experienced a miracle. daytime and night time vision is better than I ever had with glasses or contact lens.So I can only say for me it was definitely worth every penny spent. I have some £500 off vouchers for Optimax, so if anyone would like one please text me on 07860 824 598 and I will call you to get your address to send one.Stephen

Will Lazer Treatment correct a squint in my right eye?

Hi guys, im hoping to have lazer eye treatment both to improve my vision and consequently correct my squint in my right eye, which is visible when i do not wear my contacts or when i am tired...do you think an improvement in my vision would counteract the squint?

Retreatment following Lasik - Epi-Lasek or Lasik?

I had my laser eye surgery in July 2008 (Intralase Lasik with wavefront) and have been going back for post op checkups regularly since. My eyes have only really settled in the last month or two, but I still wasn’t 100% happy with the results and recently started getting frequent headaches. So last week I booked in to see a surgeon (the first time this had been offered since my op last year) and he agreed that the residual astigmatism in my left eye was causing me problems and that it would be appropriate to re-treat. He explained the two methods of re-treatment Epi-Lasek and Lasik, and that he felt Lasik was the more appropriate and to book in to have it done in a couple of weeks.I was surprised when I went out to reception and was offered Monday (today), but went and made the arrangments to have Monday and Tuesday off from work.So today I had my pre-op consultation (with a different surgeon), who went through similar tests and agreed that my left eye was a problem, described the two methods of treatment, and also described the complications that could result from re-lifting the flap and recommended I have Epi-Lasek! He convinced me that this was the best course of action because of the complications of possible ripples in the flap, growth of skin cells under the flap (which might then need to be lifted again to scrape them out) and the risk of scar tissue forming under the flap. He’d already asked how much time I had booked off and sent me back out to reception and explained to them that I was now having Epi-Lasek. The receptionist asked if I had the whole week booked off, I said no, I had a meeting on Wednesday that I couldn’t miss and she said would I like to call work and get the time off, which I couldn’t.So at this point I became quite upset and we went to a side room for a chat. So, I’ve waited for my eyesight to settle, as advised by several optometrists. When I asked them about the flap healing and not being able to be lifted again, then told me that wasn’t a concern at all and that the flap can be lifted for many years. Then one surgeon advised to have the flap lifted, the other advised that it had healed very well and he wouldn’t advise lifting it again.I’ve taken a rain check. Any advice?

PETERBOROUGH CLINIC

Can anyone let me know what their experiences are of the Peterborough clinic? I had my treatment on 18 June. The actual treatment has been completely painless. As the anesthetic wore off there was slight burning sensation - nothing major at all. The vision was blurry for the whole evening. I slept comfortably!! VERY Dry eyes when I needed to get up in the middle of the night. Still pain free in the morning, no streaming of or redness of the eyes.Next day appointment was satisfactory - 20/20 in my left eye.Inflammation on my left eye so was asked to continue with the drops - hourly - vision has detiarated since, but have been told that once the inflammation has gone and then eye drops stop the vision will come back!!! Morning vision is worse but then as the day goes the vision improves a little and still not perfect. The difference of the left eye vision and the right eye is a little too much but I am hoping when the vision is corrected to what it should be then I shall be happier. I am getting a little impatient now and can't wait for it all to be right!!

Zyoptix laser surgery ? is it good ?

Hello everyone, I hope you will be able to help me. Everything's gone ok, the pain and mistiness subsided after the first night and my eyesight is better than before but everything still looks astigmatic, ie the edges of everything are still blurred and ghosted (as they were before my op). Although I wasn't badly short sighted (just -2.5 and 2.-75) I did have pretty high astigmatisms - one eye was -2.75, the other -4.5. The whites of my eyes are very red too from the suction things, but don't think this would affect my vision.

Can I expect things to improve further? Obviously sunglasses but would anyone recommend something that they took or thought they needed?

Thanks and wish me luck! ;)

Is Intralase with Wavefront the best option?

I've been for a consultation this morning at the Finchley Road branch and they have recommended that I go for Intralase LASIK with Wavefront. I am just a bit sceptical over whether this is the best treatment option for me, or whether they are pushing this option as it is the most expensive. Has anyone actually been recommended anything else? Is 'traditional' LASIK (where they use a blade) really that bad? And is the more painful Epi-Lasek actually a better treatment? What happens if you don't have Wavefront?

I am more than a little confused over what to do. I obviously want the best treatment, even if it does cost more, but I don't want to be paying for extras when I don't need them.

Has anyone any advice for me? I'd really appreciate it.

On a side note, I have been reading that eye sight improves day by day. So while it is still improving, have people found it necessary to wear glasses or would this mean eyes wouldn't heal? And also, after LASIK or Intralase LASIK, is it true you can never where contact lenses again, even if your eye sight doesn't improve enough not to need them/glasses?

Thanks for you help! All comments appreciated.

Del

Here we go a modern tale

Hi, well after many years of thinking (thats does hurt you know) I have decided to go ahead and I am due for my operation next Tuesday (20th May 2008)

To help all of you out there that are thinking about having the operation I will let you all know the good, the bad and the indifferent that makes up my experiance, during after and much latter on. I think it is important that if the experiance and the outcome is postive we should share that as well as the bad.

My prescription is highish, -7 and -6.5, I am an old git, but fit and I have not had any eye problems over the years, I am not a perfectionist and dont expect 20/20 at the end, just thinner, much thinner glasses.

So fingers crossed and with luck I will be able to still see the PC screen next week and let you all know, whoever is interested that is.:w00t:

Marki

bruising + bloodshot worth taking arnica supplement before treatment?

Have been reading about post op healing, corneal bruising and bloodshot eyes and is all starting to put me off a bit to be honest!!

I just wondered if taking some homeopathic remedies such as arnica a couple of weeks before i have the op may help with the healing? This is misleading as the nerves are actually 'cut' not 'disturbed' and they have to grow back which can take months or even years. Research has shown that when they do grow back density is often reduced and in a small minority of cases they don't grow back at all. 'Temporarily' is misleading as it can take far longer for the nerves to re generate. 'Disturbed' makes it sounds as though the nerves are being gently prodded, when in fact they are being severed.

Nick has written 'if you do not experience dry eye with your lenses out then you will probably be ok for LASIK'. This was my situation before surgery and I can tell you has not been the case. Since the surgery I have suffered from debiliatating dry eye syndrome which is affecting every aspect of my life.

In nearly every post relating to dry eye it is mentioned 'The best way to determine your suitablility is to attend a consultation where doctors will perform a dry eye test'. Well I discussed the fact my eyes were dry when wearing contacts at my consultation and I was NEVER given a dry eye test. I was simply told Lasik would be suitible.

Before my surgery I read these forums and obviously thought they would give the most accurate information, being the laser surgery provider. Since looking at other sites I do not believe this to be the case. If I hadn't trusted this site in the first place maybe I wouldn't be in the miserable situation I'm in now.

Painfully dry eyes - 2.5 months on....

Hi All,

I had laser eye surgery (Lasik with Wavefront/intralase) at Optimax in May this year.

The day after the surgery my vision was great. Since then it's been very variable, and I've been suffering with horrendously dry eyes.

I've now spent over £120 on various eye drops (Refresh, Celluvisc, Clinitas Ultra 3 and others...) but each drop offers relief for a short while and then seems to have lesser effect.

It's also getting very expensive given all required aftercare/treatment was meant to be included in the price.

Is this normal for it to last this long? Anyone got any suggestions on how to eleviate some of the 'scratchy' feeling?

Am I the only one who feels that the price I've spent on eye drops seems extreme for a supposedly 'all inclusive' price?

Thanks,

Steve

surgeons at glasgow

anyone had treatment at glasgow and if so an you tell me the name of a good surgeon there, cheers.

Wavefront intralase.Having serious doubts.One eye only ?

Hi All

Well i'm booked in for weeks time at Finchley Road. At first i thought i'd have just one eye done but after speaking with the optician at Canary Wharf i decided to get both done at the same time. I'm -6.50 in both eyes with no stigmatism and am 39 y/o. I've booked 6 days off work and sit in front of a pc all day although i'm not fixed to the screen and am able to take regular screen breaks.

After reading these posts i am now officially freaked out. I'm now thinking of going back to my original idea of having just one done and having a clear piece of glass put in my existing glasses.Or..forgetting the whole thing.

I've read of dry eyes / blurred vision etc months after surgery and keep asking myself is it really worth the risk ?

2.5 Months On...

Hi. I'm after a bit of help. Its been just over 2 months since I had Epi-Lasek (+wavefront) on both my eyes, and for the most part its worked out great. Didn't get 20/20 but pretty good anyway. The only problem is over the past few weeks my left eye seems to be deteriorating, and I have been getting headaches in it, or eye aches I suppose. Any suggestions?

Convince me Im doing the right thing!

I went to the Peterborough Clinic last Friday for my consultation. I would say it went 'ok'. I found myself standing at the desk at the end asking lots of questions to the "receptionist/nurse?" infront of everyone that was sat in the waiting room. Not a comfortable situation. I thought i would be able to sit in a private room and ask away until I could make a decision. I am 34 and have 3 children and have a job that would no longer exist should this all go wrong...........so not a decision Im taking lightly.

I have worn glasses and lenses for 20 years and I am a -5.50 in both eyes. I have booked my treatment for the 4th Sept and I am felling sick already thinking about it.

I am having the Intralase Lasik with wavefront.

Someone please convince me Im doing the right thing!!!
