Ask away....

Hi, i thought i would add my own experience to the website as when i was researching the whole lasik thing i rarely found anybody with my prescription. So i hope this is of use to somebody.I am 41 who had a -9 prescription in both eyes. I had monovision Lasik done at the beginning of April. My left eye was purposely left at -2.5 so i use this eye for reading and my left eye was corrected to 0.0 which i use for distance. Due to my age, if both eyes where corrected to 0.0 then i would have immediately needed reading glasses. As my eyes healed they where still blurry, and when i had my eye tests, my left eye still had a prescription of -2.5. I then chose to wear glasses for the next several months until i could be retreated.Due to the thickness of my corneas after the Lasik, i then had Lasek done on my left eye only on the 9th Sept.I had my eyes checked yesterday and i now have 20/20 vision. My left eye is a perfect 0.0 and my right eye -2.5. Exactly what the surgeon ordered!I am thrilled to bits. I have worn glasses (very thick ones) for over 30 years. Now i wake up and can see. It is amazing. I have sufferred no dry eyes and have had no problems whatsoever.I had my treatment done at Optimax in Brighton. I cannot fault the service i have had.I am more than happy to answer any questions.Nicky:D

£500 discount voucher

Hi all!I have had my eye lazer treatment 11 Aug 2011. The most common side-effect of Lasik surgery is that of dry eyes. Considering the fact that you are already facing the problem of dry-eyes, you ought to know that your problem can increase post surgery. It is important to note that even those people who do not have the problem of dry eyes, are also likely to face this problemWithout glasses

Sensitive eyes

For anyone who has had laser eye surgery - has anyone had it done who has especially sensitive eyes?I can barely get an eyelash out of my own eye or put in contact lenses, I fell off the chair when the guy at Optical Express put the drops in my eye :D Will I cope with having my eye clamped open? I can only wear contact lenses when I'm outside or going out socialising (drinking) with friends. I can't wear them at home or inside places or generally much at all because I can feel them on my eyes all the time and it's quite irritating. I can't wear contact lenses when I'm sat at my computer, or watching TV, or in the car with the heater blowing etc. as they just dry out and I can feel them more and more the longer I sit there... but if I go outside for a walk in the fresh air it's not so bad - and I can put up with them because I think the moisture in the air lends itself to my eyes and makes them more comfortable. For this reason I wear my glasses - a lot... and will only ever wear my contacts when going out drinking on a Saturday night or whatever. (alcohol numbs the feeling of them after a pint or two and I forget they are there!)This leads me to Laser Eye Surgery... I've never been able to afford it until now, but the only thing holding me back is that I think I have quite naturally dry eyes, and I've read one of the side effects being "dry eye"... this would be a nightmare for me, as at least with glasses my eyes feel fine... I would hate to have an irreverisible operation done which meant walking around with dry eyes for the rest of my life.I suppose it's a stupid question to ask whether I would be susceptible to the "dry eye" side effect.I guess I fear it would be worse than it actually is anyway... with contact lenses in general I can actually them by moving my eyes up down, left right etc. so I'm sure I wouldn't get this! How bad is the dry eye effect? Does it go away after a period of time - is there a way for the consultant to determine whether or not I would be at risk of dry eye ?Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Really bad eyesight -8.50 is it worth getting it done?

Hi, I went for a consultation the other day at Optical Express who have advised that I should have Lasek done at a cost of £3,000 which is more than I want to pay really. And im slightly concerned that because my eyesight is so bad I dont want their being a risk of anything going wrong and also the last thing I want is to still need to wear glasses/contact lenses after. Also I suffer with dry eyes and was also told that I may need to apply drops for quite a while after the surgery. Can anyone give their honest opion if whether or not they think its worth getting it done or not? I am thinking of having a consultation with Optimax. Well the first set of contacts I tried were really uncomfortable and I kept missing steps and things. Then I was told that as I had an Astigmatism I should try a toric lens, well yes that was better, trouble is that when I look in the mirror all I can see is the lens. I am now back using a regular lens that are really good for comfort but sometimes text is fuzzy. I also want to wear them everyday and have been told that I should only wear them for 12 hours per day up to 6 days per week. The lenes are -2.75 in my left and -3.00 in my right. Anyway.....Over the weekend I started to think that maybe I should look into having my eyes fixed. The idea of no glasses or lenses really sound good. So...I have made an appointment to speak with someone, but thats not for 3 weeks. My prescription is relatively high left eye -7.75 and right eye -8.0. I have done some research around ten hours, and have found a lot of conflicting information. The array of options is quite daunting. I have always tried in all my major decision making processes to decide on the best quality at the lowest price (Sounds obvious however difficult to achieve). The big question comes down to what is the acutal difference between Optimax and Ultralase. I will start with the case for both companies. Optimax suggests that you can get the same treatment with them for half the price of the other major companies (I presume this is in reference to Ultralase etc). Ultralase suggests that the treatment and lifetime guarantee service offers enhanced results. With Ultralase due to my high prescription Ultra Elite with Lasik and wavefront seems to be the best answer (Recommended to me by Ultralase consultant) . This will cost around 4k. I have a appt with Optimax in January 2010. From my research if I am recommended for surgery, it will be wavefront lasik intralase blade-less technology like Ultralase. However the cost is likely to be around 50% discount from Ultralase and lesser discount with others. This information seems to be understood by most and widely available. From what I can understand the ONLY advantage held by Ultralase with the treatment, Ultra Elite is the added capability to smooth out minor imperfections in the eye. Which I think that Optimax cannot achieve with their equipment. Everything otherwise seems to be the same equipment wise.THE BIG QUESTION THAT WE ALL WANT TO KNOW, IS WHAT IS THE EXACT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPTIMAX EQUIPMENT AND ULTRALASE EQUIPMENT ??????. The Ultralase lifetime guarantee (Including free retreatment if required) adds much weight to the Ultralase option. The Optimax lifetime guarantee seems to only be really valid for one year retreatment wise. I do expect to need retreatment maybe one or even two more times in my lifetime, which again seems to add weight to the Ultralase option(Costs!!) due to my age 25 years old.I will conclude by evaluating in my opinion, that Ultralase might be better if you are younger(higher or lower prescription), and hence the inital higher costs will be outweighed by the retreatment costs saved. Optimax might be better if you expect to have one treatment in your lifetime and no further treatments.I would much welcome any futher posts, and the question what is really the difference between these two companies and others. I havent decided yet but I think Ultralase would be best for me due to my age and my potential retreatment. Hence I cannot see any real difference between Optimax and Ultralase. Thanks for reading,James

Question

I have an appointment at the Birmingham clinic on Thursday, in the confirmation letter that I had it says to bring some old glasses or eye prescriptions with me. My presciption (trying to remember) was around -4 on both eyes. This was 8 years ago and have to say apart from the odd day of dry eye best thing I ever done. However I am due for an eye test tomorrow because I know that my eye site is not getting worse again distance. A friend has glasses and has -1.25 and just putting these on really sharpened up eye site. The thought I wearing glasses again is just horrible, I did wear contacts but due to the having dry eyes occasionally and working in an air conditioned office I don't think this is a good idea. My questions is has anyone had retreatment after this kind of period and what treatment would they offer now. I have called Optimax and have to say they skirted round how much I would have to pay if having retreatment but got the impression it would be the full amount. When having the surgery I was advised this would be permenant if it worked and that the only time I would need glasses would be for reading. LASIK is not, however, for everyone. Due to the nature of the surgery there are some people who should not have LASIK surgery. For some people the risk of damage to the eye is too great. For others it may just not be the best choice.

LASIK may not be the best choice for someone who is wanting perfect vision. While many times LASIK does provide wonderful results there is no guarantee what the results will be. A person may still have to wear glasses or contacts even after the surgery.

LASIK is not usually covered by insurance, so financially speaking, LASIK may not be a good option. A person should look into to financing options to see if they can afford LASIK. Many surgeons offer great financing options, so do not immediately give up if you think you can not afford it.

Health wise, LASIK is not a good choice for the following:

People younger than 25 - this is because hormone fluctuations can effect the surgery
People with diabetes - this disease can effect the eye and the hormones
Women who breastfeeding or pregnant- again due to hormones
People on certain medications - some medications can effect vision
People with autoimmune diseases - this can effect healing and lead to infection or complications
People who are active in sports activities - the possibility of injury to the eye could result in severe damage

If you fall into any of these categories you should let your surgeon know. It is very important that you make sure you can get the surgery without adverse effects. The goal is good vision, but if you have a health condition or other risk factor then you could end up unsatisfied in the end.

Previously Unsuitable

I've had a consultation in 2005 and I was refused due to having thin corneas.

Has the process improved in such a way that it would be worth me going back for an assesment?

Advice need am i really too young

Hiya

I am looking to book a consutation very soon within the next month. The only thing that worries me is my age. as it states 21 but then you ask around and they 20, its so confusing
I am currently 20 (will be 21 in november) but my prescription hasnt changed in at least 2 years and before that for a few years it only changed very slighty.

Eight eye: -6.50
Left eye: -5.50

So i know the only option i have is Lasik, my mum had her eyes lasered over a year ago and is very happy, i have just had enough of contact lenses and the studies that i do requires me to wear contact lenses as galsses are inconvenient.

what does everyone think?

BAD CUSTOMER CARE and MISLEADING Price

Dear All,

I would like a refund of my £30 deposit . I have been to the appointment on Saturday which has been a frustrating experience. I was told several times that I could have the operation on the same day and I went to the clinics 2 weeks before to confirm this and was told again that I will be book to have the operation on the same day. On the day, I was told that I couldn’t because I haven’t book for treatment but no one ever mentioned it before.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have encountered several issues outline below:

Firstly, I was quote £2440 to £2000 for a treatment, those figures amount to three times the misleading figure of £790 advertised on the website. Those prices were totally arbitrary and discount was offer on an imaginary basis. I never seen a business that act in such way apart from scam salesman.

Secondly, the optician find that my prescription was different from the -2, I have recorded on my application. This -2 prescription was from my November prescription and my sight could not have deteriorated in such a short amount of time since I can see clearly with my glasses. If it had, I shouldn’t be fit for treatment anyway. And since I have been quoted on a prescription higher than that I suggest that someone was not competent enough to judge a patient sight or just trying to make more money.

Thirdly , I would like to cancel the appointment made on the 25thMarch at the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Manchester clinic since I do not trust those people.

Can you give me the email address of the person who deals with all the complaints as I want this incident to be looked at and want some explanation for all this.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Can Optimax be given to MS sufferers?

I am Relapsing Remitting MS sufferer. Eyesight has deteriorated

I had laser eye correction (at Optimax, London) in about 2000-2001. I had the type where the flab (no, sorry, thats still there, I mean the flap!!) is peeled back and underneath is lasered. I had one eye done, then a month later returned and had the other one done. My eyesight was fab until about two years ago, when I had to give in and get some glasses for driving, cinema, tv, etc. At the same time I got some reading glasses too, but hardly ever need to wear them. Now I need to have my eyes tested again and predict my distance glasses need upping, and I need to wear the ones I have got alot more frequently. My main question is: Can I have it done again, and will it last longer with new technology. Other questions include: why havent I seen a thread questioning this issue (am I the only one?), and if so, why has my eyesight deteriorated shortsightedly and not longsightedly as I was told.

am i suitable for treatment

my prescription reads as follows

right eye left eye

sph cyl axis sph cyl axis

-2.75 +0.75 55 -3.00 +1.00 160

what treatment is most suitable.

short article on Lasik

well my girlfriend got Lasik done not too long ago and she seems to really like it.
So im kinda considering getting one as well, and as I was doing some research on my own, I pulled this article on a website about lasik, and thot it would be nice to share this:
LASIK eye surgery benefits include improved visual activity, freedom from corrective eyewear, and possibly new career opportunities. Patients who achieve a successful LASIK outcome can eliminate their need for glasses or contact lenses, and enjoy the freedom of clear vision at all times. LASIK eye surgery is a safe and effective treatment that has continued to gain popularity among patients. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with LASIK, but in the hands of a highly skilled and experienced surgeon, LASIK is a particularly safe and reliable procedure. However, you should talk with your surgeon about any risks associated with the procedure, as well as all the benefits. And always get your eye-evaluation done beforehand and follow up on your eyes after surgery. Keep in mind that at Lasik-1 your care will be entrusted to an industry leading surgeon who uses some of the most advanced LASIK technology available today. You can check my2020 for more information about Lasik.
Someone help with my prescription?

I wear contacts, daily torics.

i need my prescription cause i'm thinkin of getting laser eye surgery.
