Dr Anwar was quite serious with telling me to buy a pair of bifocals and I did not find his remarks acceptable of his assessment of my eyes. I did as I said go to Optical Express and have retreatment I was supposed to have monovision but Dr Sussanna Boytha would do the procedure as I had not had a weeks trial of contact lenses as she explained that some customers had bad headaches and wre having to be retreated as they could not deal with the two eyes treated one for near and one for distance. I now regret having the distance corrected and should have taken her advice to have her give me contact lenses for a further week then if suitable retreatment the following week, but as I had arranged time off work just went ahead with distance correction and still need glasses for reading etc. my husband is at present having a trial with one contact lense for near and is finding it very difficuilt. How long did it take for your eyes to regulate after surgery and how is your distance/middle and near sight. do you have any problems with monovision?

Hi Sybil,

I didn't have a contact lens trial first - it was a case of in at the deep end. I had previously though exchanged e-mails with Russell Ambrose (via e-bay) who really set my expectations. He said he'd had it done many years ago. So I was warned that it might take some time to get used to and that some people take longer than others to adjust.

I had all this in mind when it came to my consultation and was going to ask the surgeon about it. I didn't have to in the end because after my tests, he brought up the subject of me being a suitable candidate for monovision before I had chance to.

The first week after the (original) treatment was weird. I did feel kind of lop sided. Bear in mind too that I had epi-lasek and the results are not instant like yours would have been? I was driving standard about 2 weeks after the op. however it took I guess 6 months or more to get used to monovision. I was warned of this of course by Russell and the surgeon. He (russell) also said to persevere with it and the rewards are worth it. I can't say that I agreed with that at first. there were days when I panicked and thought i'd never see properly again.

Slowly though i'd notice the change it wasn't like one day it all clicked. I remember all being well by the time I went on holiday to Jordan 6 months after the treatment.

So when I noticed that I wasn't seeing brilliantly again I didn't want to go back to wearing glasses. Also if you have spent out the money initially it all seems such a waste. I was really glad when the same surgeon was still working in Southampton and like I say, I trust his advice. This time I got used to monovision again much quicker. I'm guessing that it's because my brain was used to it from before and was just a case of adjusting a teeny bit.

I'm glad yours is sorted now albeit from a different company. but from what you say about your Dr's comments, I wouldn't have liked it either.

I felt that Dr Anwar was quite condisending in his manner, I respect his decission but now after retreatment know he was wrong as I have perfect vision for distance back. my only regret is that I was to have monvision but as I had not had a weeks trial with contact lenses Dr Sussanna Boytha said she would not do the procedure as too many having this procedure were having headaches and could not cope with monovision and had to have reverse treatment. She wanted me to have a weeks trial and if ok she would perform monovision the following week but as I had arranged a week off work told her just to correct my distance which I now regret, as the thought of not having to put on glasses to see sell by dates, price tags etc sounds wonderful.
