I had my eyes lasered at Finchley Road in 2001 using PRK treatment and costing £800 lovely. They no longer do this treatment but have a more upto date version, PRK is where they laser without cutting a flap. I was not really worried and procedure was fine, 40 seconds per eye staring at a red dot. Yes you do smell your eye burning which is not nice, however they then give you leaflet and aftercare booklet after you have had the treatment!! I could not see anything and was relying on someone else telling me what to do, stupid idea to be fair. Howeve got home and went to bed, next morning couldn't open my eye as it is dried together (very scarey) had to open them with my fingers which was very uncomfortable and painful. I would say it took me a good 10 days to see properly and 4 days of that was sat in a dark room as the light hurt my eyes. Very scarey experience and not one I wish to go through again. However I ended up with 20/20 vision.
8 years on I now have to wear glasses as shortsighted again, I was not told that this could happen 8 years ago. However I have to wait at least a year for a stable prescription if I decide to get retreatment. Now I don't regret my laser treatment and specially not when paying £800. However looking at the prices now I would not be saying that if I had paid around £3K and then ended up wearing glasses. So for the 8 years its been great and well worth it. Would I recommend it now NO, will I have my eyes retreated if my presciption gets worse NO. Just another notice since having surgery I do get the occasional dry eye in the morning, nothing bad and not everyday but believe this is quite popular. Also nightmare driving can look dazzley.
