Hi folks
Just wanted a bit of advice from anyone who has experienced the same as myself. I had lazer surgery just over a week ago and today went for my seond appointment. I am a bit concerned to be honest. Surgery went very well. No pain just a bit irritating afterwards but drops were great. I was told prior to surgery I may need glasses for reading (eventually). As I said I am just one week after surgery and i can't see to read very clearly. Even texting on my mobile is a problem. I never had this problem whilst wearing contact lenses to correct short sightedness. I am driving ok and am happy enough with vision for distance. Just thought I would see clearer close up. Was told it should have settled by now and when tested today was told should be seeing clearer than I am. I was then told not to worry too much and come back in 3 weeks for another appointment. Has anyone out there had similar experience? I have had to buy reading glasses from chemist in the meantime. Sight is just not as sharp as I had thought it would be!!! Can someone put my mind at ease that this is short term and maybe it eventually will get better.

Thanks
Webear

Hi, Sorry to hear you have encountered problems with your near vision. Did you have monovision treatment? I had monovision done 3 weeks ago at Finchley Road. Luckily I am happy with the progess I have made although there is still room for improvement. In the first week I had to continue with the red pre forte drops every hour as my left eye(for distance) had inflammation. As soon as I stopped those drops my vision has got better.
Dr Boezart who performed the surgery was quite confident that my vision will get better and so far so good!! I think you should keep having it monitored. If you are having to wear glasses for reading it does defeat the object of having gone through with the surgery!!

Thanks for your comment Rekha. No didn't get monovision. I was just concerned because optician at clinic thought my vision should be better at this stage. She said to leave it for another 3 weeks then come back. It is great not having to wear contacts to see in general but things are just not as clear as they should be. I am keeping my fingers crossed that things improve over the next couple of weeks. At work I use a computer a lot so maybe thats not helping. Doctor had said I may eventually need glasses for reading which I was prepared for but not so soon after surgery. Here's hoping things get better.

Hi,

I was told that I would need reading glasses after having the surgery, but this was when I had a consultation with another provider. (I haven't had the surgery yet.)

So, from what I've been told, it's not uncommon for that to happen, especially with people who were severly short-sighted.

I would like to let you know it will probably settle. My eyes were very shortsighted with astigmatism and it took about 3 months for my eyes to settle and for my vision to be 'normal'. I did think it would never happen but eventually it did. I even started to regret the decision to have my eyes done as up until 3 months or so after my treatment my eyes didn't seem as good but 2 years on I have really sharp vision and still don't need glasses.

Thanks Dawn. That has given me a bit of hope. I have actually noticed over the past few days that my sight has actually improved. I can see to read a little but wearing +2 glasses from local chemist makes it clearer. So maybe as you say it will continue to improve. Apart from this I am still glad I had lazer done. It is now 11 days since surgery and my eyes feel great. No pain or anything now. Right eye felt a little sore today but I bought more refresh drops and that has done the trick. Will keep you posted as to how sight continues to improve.
