Hello All,

I am currently in the process of choosing a eye correction laser treatment company. My prescription is relatively high left eye -7.75 and right eye -8.0. I have done some research around ten hours, and have found a lot of conflicting information.

The array of options is quite daunting. I have always tried in all my major decision making processes to decide on the best quality at the lowest price (Sounds obvious however difficult to achieve).

The big question comes down to what is the acutal difference between Optimax and Ultralase. I will start with the case for both companies. Optimax suggests that you can get the same treatment with them for half the price of the other major companies (I presume this is in reference to Ultralase etc). Ultralase suggests that the treatment and lifetime guarantee service offers enhanced results.

With Ultralase due to my high prescription Ultra Elite with Lasik and wavefront seems to be the best answer (Recommended to me by Ultralase consultant) . This will cost around 4k. I have a appt with Optimax in January 2010. From my research if I am recommended for surgery, it will be wavefront lasik intralase blade-less technology like Ultralase. However the cost is likely to be around 50% discount from Ultralase and lesser discount with others. This information seems to be understood by most and widely available. From what I can understand the ONLY advantage held by Ultralase with the treatment, Ultra Elite is the added capability to smooth out minor imperfections in the eye. Which I think that Optimax cannot achieve with their equipment. Everything otherwise seems to be the same equipment wise.

THE BIG QUESTION THAT WE ALL WANT TO KNOW, IS WHAT IS THE EXACT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPTIMAX EQUIPMENT AND ULTRALASE EQUIPMENT ??????.

The Ultralase lifetime guarantee (Including free retreatment if required) adds much weight to the Ultralase option. The Optimax lifetime guarantee seems to only be really valid for one year retreatment wise. I do expect to need retreatment maybe one or even two more times in my lifetime, which again seems to add weight to the Ultralase option(Costs!!) due to my age 25 years old.

I will conclude by evaluating in my opinion, that Ultralase might be better if you are younger(higher or lower prescription), and hence the inital higher costs will be outweighed by the retreatment costs saved. Optimax might be better if you expect to have one treatment in your lifetime and no further treatments.

I would much welcome any futher posts, and the question what is really the difference between these two companies and others. I havent decided yet but I think Ultralase would be best for me due to my age and my potential retreatment. Hence I cannot see any real difference between Optimax and Ultralase.

Thanks for reading,

James

Hi James
I doubt if your qu will get answered here, as it is not a forum for experts. I suggest you have a consultation at both companies, ask your questions , and then use the compnay that gives you most comfort in their answers. Hope that helps.

Ps. ANY POTENTIAL PATIENTS...I still have some free consultation and £500 off treatment vouchers.
If anyone would like one please text or e mail me your full name and address. I'll send to you free of charge.

hi James... your prescription is very similar to mine (-9 in the left eye and -5in the other). at first I was told that lasik+wavefront would be good for me, so I booked the surgery just 2 or three days after the first consultation (cardiff). but then, in bristol the surgeon told me that and because of my left eye lasik/lasek wasn't advisable but ICL (which is a lot more expensive), would be a better solution.
the surgeon seemed honest I don't think that he was pushing me for the money, but I was quite disappointed when he told me that... if you say that ultralase has a slightly better equipment i might go there, the consultation is free anyway (not sure yet, or actualy the handouts given to me by OPTIMAX shows that).

if you have more info about your decision just put it here please.
