I had wavefront/intralase almost 48 hours ago. Everything's gone ok, the pain and mistiness subsided after the first night and my eyesight is better than before but everything still looks astigmatic, ie the edges of everything are still blurred and ghosted (as they were before my op). Although I wasn't badly short sighted (just -2.5 and 2.-75) I did have pretty high astigmatisms - one eye was -2.75, the other -4.5. The whites of my eyes are very red too from the suction things, but don't think this would affect my vision.
Can I expect things to improve further? The way it is at the moment I'm still going to need glasses! The optician on my check up yesterday said I would expect to see an improvement every day, but today my vision is the same as yesterday (one day after my op).
Thanks for reading!

Pansy
It is too early at 48 hours to start worrying about this.
I am sure it will continue to improve over the coming months.
Take 1 day at a time - this is probably what your optician meant. There will be days that you won't have any improvement then other days will really surprise you.
Hang in there, it can be a slow road to recovery. Keep up the drops.

Hi azriel,
Thanks for your message, it's just the sort of thing I need to hear at the moment. My eyesight is no different today. I'm trying to be positive, but my instinct is telling me that the astigmatisms are still there. They're the bane of my life.
Is anyone reading this who's had astigmatisms as high as mine? I'd love to hear your experiences.

| Dear Pansy How are things going? I too had high astigmatisms and I am finding the same as you that although my vision is better, I still have alot of blurring around letters and my sight doesn't feel clear. I had my treatment last Tues, do you find your eyes are getting better as time goes on?

Hi Samantha,
I had a check up a week after the op and they told me my astigmatisms had improved by 0.5. However, my sight still doesn't seem clearer at all than the day after the op. They did mention that I might need re-treating in a few months in one eye. I wouldn't be happy with this though as I think both eyes need doing. I can't read road signs until I'm almost parallel and that is in bright daylight and I don't recognise people I know until they're right up to me. It is worse when the light dims. My sight is better than it was, but I do still need glasses at the moment. I asked at my week's check about getting some glasses but they said I should wait 4 months as my eyes will still be changing. Like I think I said in a previous post, I don't think they are going to get much better no matter how long I wait. Also when I'm reading a book my eyes ofter go jittery???
I am a bit worried to be honest.
How are you though Samantha? What was your pre-op prescription?

Hi Rebecca,
Sorry to hear you're worried. I must say that over the past couple of weeks I think my sight has actually improved a bit. I'm not sure if this is a real improvement or if I'm just getting used to it and forgetting how clear my glasses made my sight. I'm going to book a follow up appointment for this week and find out for sure. I'll report back, wish me luck!

| hi. just had 14 day checkup. i still borderline driving standard - i still have high astigmatism in both eyes - it has only descreased by a 1/3 to about 2.25 in both eyes. my sight in my left eye is actually only -0.25 but he astigmatism is making it blurry. the right eye is now +1.50. they say that things could still improve - but i very confused as to how my astigmatism could get any better if the shape of the eye is not going to change anymore????? we have talked about retreatment which could be after 3 months. very worried. have to go back in 6 weeks which seems such a long way away. but there is nothing dr or me can do to speed up healing just waiting game now. can anyone reasure me?? rebecca

| Hi, I had epi-lasek with wavefront on the 6 august. Like you I still have an astimatism and my eyesight is borderline driving standard. I have been told to keep my fingers crossed and hopefully things will improve but a retreatment of one eye may be on the cards. I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow and feeling very frustrated and, like you, would like someone to explain how an asigmatism could get better over time....... please can someone from Optimax explain.
