I had epi-lasek at Optimax Birmingham in November last year.  The pain that i suffered was excruciating, but i expected it and i dealt with it - painkillers and eye drops.

Now 8 months on, i suffer from constant muchus developing in my eyes, kind of like this stringy stuff which develops under my lower and upper eye lids and sleep in the corner of my eyes.  It is really irritating.  In addition to this, my eyes at times feel really achy, and i can be hard to keep them open when this happens.  This happens maybe once every few days.

I do not suffer from hay fever or anything else which may cause these symptoms, and use artificial tears.  These started occuring soon after my epi-lasek treatment.

Can someone please advise me as to what i need to do to sort this problem out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brummie20,

I am an optometrist working for Optimax at the Croydon clinic. You don't mention when your last check up was or what advice you were given. Without seeing your eyes its difficult to advise you but I do know that if mucous is causing a problem that a prescription drop called "ilube" can be prescribed by a doctor. It is a mucolytic, which means it helps to break mucous up and prevents the formation of those long stringy strands that you are getting. Also you should try if possible not to put your fingers in your eyes to remove the mucous as this actually causes irritation, which will result in the production of more mucous. Ideally you really need to pop in to the Birmingham clinic to see an optometrist or if available, a doctor.

Hope you find this helpful.
