Being a boxer I wasn't sure if I would be able to continue my career following laser eye surgery and as such avoided the issue for a few years.
I was due to debut on September 11th at York Hall but having failed my eye test for a professional boxing license, I thought my career was over before it even started. 3 years of dedicated training all for nothing.
I contacted Optimax at Liverpool Street and the lovely Nahida Khan undertook my initial consultancy. She was able to go through the options available to me and put my mind at rest that I would be able to pursue a boxing career after eye surgery.
I had Lasek laser eye surgery at Optimax, Finchley Road, London on August 27th and was advised not to spar etc for a month. I returned to full fight training in October and have been sparring regularly.
I would advise any sports person who is having second thoughts about laser eye surgery that it is 100% worth doing.
I doubt that there are many sports where the head takes the level of punishment that a boxer's does and I have found absolutely no problems, even with my sparring partner being a highly experienced (20 fight - 3 world title challenges) professional at a much higher weight than my own (she 10st 7lbs and myself 8st 13lbs).
Thanks to Optimax my career has been saved and I am currently awaiting for the BBBofC to consider my re-application and hope to professionally debut shortly.
