Hi, well after many years of thinking (thats does hurt you know) I have decided to go ahead and I am due for my operation next Tuesday (20th May 2008)

To help all of you out there that are thinking about having the operation I will let you all know the good, the bad and the indifferent that makes up my experiance, during after and much latter on. I think it is important that if the experiance and the outcome is postive we should share that as well as the bad.

My prescription is highish, -7 and -6.5, I am an old git, but fit and I have not had any eye problems over the years, I am not a perfectionist and dont expect 20/20 at the end, just thinner, much thinner glasses.

So fingers crossed and with luck I will be able to still see the PC screen next week and let you all know, whoever is interested that is.

Well here I am less than 24 hours after and I am able to type! The day wnet well although very long, if you do go dont have the conultation and then the operation, wait and come back as I got there at 9.10am and did not have my treatement until 5.30pm.

The staff at Reading were great, very professional. They kept me informed and apoligised for the long wait.

I had the bladeless laser and although it was uncomfortable, it was not painfull, more like the dentist. It is more about your expectations than any actual pain, it does not hurt in any way.

The operation was very speedy and again the staff were great.

I could have danced when I was waiting for the final consultation as I could see!!! number and stuff without glasses.

A word of caution, go with someone....... I did not and after the pain killers stopped working it was very difficult to see. The pain came about 7pm and came back in waves, it was not awful as I am a wimp but it made you just want to go to bed, which I did. I awoke this morning at 5am and felt fine. I have a slighly blurry vison but I have got plastic lens in my eyes which will be taken out today. I can read unaided and the clarity comes and goes, but remember it is not even 20 hours after and my prescription was high.

I will add to this in few days.

Hi Marki,

I am very pleased that everything so far seems to be going well! It is amazing that you are typing so quickly. Good luck with the removal of the bandage lens today (I assume?) and I am looking forward to hearing how your eyes progress in  the future.

Your blog is truly valued to someone who wants to get it done but feels a little nervous.

All the best,

Shelley

Hi

I went to Reading today and was seen spot on my time. Plastic lenses have been removed and my vision has been checked, it is just on 20/20, which is not bad. Also which they found surporsing was my near vision, i am 53 so i would expect to have reading glasses, after the op i dont need anything to read although it is early days yet.

The long vision (distance) is not as sharp as I would like but, as i said it is not even 24 hours (yet) My standard is that i can now read a number plate at 67 feet.

My eyes are a little dry, but no infection. There are small marks on the white of both eyes, but thats it. I have a little puffyness around both eyes and my (small) bags are darker.

Again the staff at Reading were great and no I am not getting any commision.

I could really do with a large glass of wine but that must wait.

I hope this helps you all, so far it has been a success, so far that is.

Hi all, well day three and all is well.

Lesson number two, do not try and use a PC for any more that 10 mins, I did and my eyes hurt and the vision went downhill. This morning it is even better than yesterday, although it does look like I will need a very small prescription to read books, this is what I expected due to my age. The clarity of the long range vision is fantastic, better that 20/20 in other words number plates can be read at about 100'

The eyes feel a liitle sore still, so watch this space.

I will keep this up till I am discharged, if any of you have any qestions please ask.

Hi, well yet another few days and my eyes are really good. A little dryness but the drops soon sort that out. The vision is fantastic, although the eyes get a little tired during the day. When I wake up I must have 20/60, then it drops of a little.

I will be back at work on Tuesday, although I have been doing work for 20 mins on and 5 off.

So far so good

Hi

Well the vision is appears to be settling, I will need reading glasses and the long range vision is affected by being tired. Aprt from that all still seems fine. I am using the tears to help with the slight dryness and keeping on with the medication.

I am due back mid early June for the second check. Back to work on Tusday, with reasonable breaks.

Hi

My mistake was trying to do too much too soon, I would suggest that 25 mins on and 10 off a PC three days after the op should be ok. I am at work today and using the Pc for 40 mins then 10 off, which seems ok.

In the morning the vision is crystal clear long distance, but drops off in the afternoon and the eyes feel tired. I would think that things will settle down and i hope the lond distance vision is fine all day.

The eyes are still a little dry but nothing bad, I am keeping up with the medication and the refreash drops.

I hope these notes help those of you that (as i did have concerns)

I will update these notes in a week.

Hi

Well after a holiday in the lakes all is still well. i have just had my check up and the eyes are fine, a little dry but nothing to speak of, it was fantastic walking in the rain and not having any misting up. My prescription is now about -0.1 and -0.2, so nearly perfect. When I wake up the vision is great although during the day it drops off, this is down to my eyes drying up, but angain this is really minor.

So all is still fine, please email me if you have any questions as it is the best thing i have every spent my money on, apart from my wedding!

Have the very best treatment you can afford

I will update this after the next appointment in six weeks time.
