Hi All

Well i'm booked in for weeks time at Finchley Road. At first i thought i'd have just one eye done but after speaking with the optician at Canary Wharf i decided to get both done at the same time. I'm -6.50 in both eyes with no stigmatism and am 39 y/o. I've booked 6 days off work and sit in front of a pc all day although i'm not fixed to the screen and am able to take regular screen breaks.

After reading these posts i am now officially freaked out. I'm now thinking of going back to my original idea of having just one done and having a clear piece of glass put in my existing glasses.Or..forgetting the whole thing.

I've read of dry eyes / blurred vision etc months after surgery and keep asking myself is it really worth the risk ?

Don't do it. I had the same surgery. It's not worth the risk at all. You could end up like me and believe me what I have now is FAR worse than any 'inconvenience' I ever had with contacts or glasses. PS On top of all the problems I have I am STILL shortsighted and still have to wear glasses, so I am in the same position before surgery but with painful, sore, red eyes with cuts in them to boot.

Put it this way, I look at people wearing glasses now and actually feel jealous, that might put in perspective for you how much I regret having it done. I would give my right arm to go back to my old eyes.

If you are are going to go through with it, do NOT have lasik, have epi-lasek. Epi-lasek may be more painful in the short term but at least it doesn't sever all the nerves in your eye (which may or may not grow back) and it means you haven't got a cut in your eye forever more (the flap never heals and means you're eye is always vulnerable to trauma). And yes, only have one eye done at a time, but do not book the second in advance, leave it a good 4-5 months so you know the reality of the outcome first. 1-2 months is too early to tell.

Also if anything does go wrong don't expect sympathy from Optimax, you sell your soul to the devil when you sign that disclaimer. I have never seen the same doctor twice at Optimax which doesn't bode well for aftercare!

Bear in mind there are groups in the US trying to get this surgery banned because of the effects it has had on some people's lives. People have killed themselves over the results, and I am talking over side effects such as 'dry eyes' which a doctor will tell you is minor! Let alone anything worse happening.

Cancel the sugery and thank your lucky stars you escaped, because I would do anything to be in your position right now of still having the chance to cancel.
