...and i'm as nervous as hell!!

Am having Intralase Wavefront Lasik in Bristol.

The consultation is at 9:45am. How soon after will i have the treatment if i decide to have it on that day? I'm sure i read somewhere that it was two hours but just wanted to check.

Also can anyone advise what i will need to take with me. Obviously sunglasses but would anyone recommend something that they took or thought they needed?

Thanks and wish me luck!

Hi

Apart from the sunglasses and another person to help you home there's nothing much i can think of that will help. About an hour or so after the op your eyes will stream for several hours and you will be extremely light sensitive. They'll give you some plastic eye guards to wear in bed and if you manage to sleep much when you wake up things will be much better.

I had my consultations months before the op so can not advise on that part.

Just try and relax on the day. You'll be fine !

Good Luck

Joe

Thanks very much

I think i am more worried as i have a 4 month old baby and no-one to help me out after i've had the treatment.

Do you think i should be able to see enough to take care of her?? Or am i totally mad

Hi there, don't worry too much, I'm sure you will be ok. I had one eye done 3 weeks ago at Bristol. You really don't feel anything during the procedure (Lasik/intralase/wavefront) and then you walk downstairs for Dr. Kharshid to check you out. About halfway home (100 miles) I started to get a little discomfort as the doctor predicted and so we pulled over and my husband put some anaesthetic drops in my eye which worked instantly. I had no light sensitivity at all and my eye didn't run. The next day when I went back for my check up I had better than 20/20 vision in the treated eye which was fantastic. I am lucky in that Monovision works well for me and so I don't need glasses for either distance or reading which is a great bonus. I would have been happy if I just needed reading glasses. My middle distance is a bit blurry but I gather that this is normal and will settle in time. I could drive the next day in daylight and within a week at night. Car headlights are still a bit haloed but then I am used to that wearing specs anyway. My vision was not quite as perfect the following week but apparently it can take 3 months to finally settle. In short the whole thing has been beyond all my expectations and I really hope it's the same for you. Good luck! By the way everyone at Bristol is great.
